I have some magazines from America now. The pictures are so beautiful, even the ads.
Most of the magazines had an ad for Pepridge Farms cinnamon raisin bread. You know the one? It pictures the sliced loaf that has the swirls of cinnamon and raisins. In the foreground, there is a picture of a toasted piece on a plate with the huge pat of melting butter on it? I wanted that bread so bad!
I finally made a loaf. It was good, but not as good as Pepridge Farms! Theirs must have A LOT of butter! :)
Did you ever hear that maybe true urban legend about the factory built among a tribal people? The owners had built the factory there because of the inexpensive labor. They had no shortage of workers, for the first month. Once the people received their first paycheck they didn't come back to work.
The factory owners were mystified and investigated. They found out that the people had made more money then they needed in the first month. Since they didn't need anything else and lived mostly in a bartering-moneyless society, they didn't need to work for money anymore.
What did the factory owners do? They sent out catalogs. There has been no shortage of workers ever since!
Ah the power of advertising and marketing!!!
