Iowa

Small town.

It helps define "community" in a clearer way then the city.

Examples:

  1. The fire department is all volunteer here in Alta. The man of the house we are in is on the squad. Suddenly there was a disbatch called out in the house and he ran out. The fire department is across the street. Soon about 10 seperate trucks speed by the house. About 35 seconds after that, all the community men in various clothes speed by in the fire truck. He returns 40 minutes later. They put out a brush fire near the road.

  2. Today we walked to school the the bus honked at us. I looked up to see the associate pastor driving the bus. -- yep they needed him and he has his bus licence, so there he was.

  3. Later I went into the school office to pay for lunch and I mentioned I had a teaching credential. They said, "do you want to sub." I said, "yes." They put my name and number on the list and informed me that most of their subs are farmer's wives and they are too busy with harvest. They are delighted. I am happy it's that easy to get some suplemental income. :)

  4. I got a library card today. I checked out books and I asked about late fees. They don't have late fees, just a conscious box where you can make a donation- ya that would work in San Bernardino! :)

So anyhow, there is a much homier feel here than the city. Kind a cool.

Sorry there are no pictures. I couldn't get them to load!

In San Bernardino they would take the box. :) Welcome to small town, USA. AKA, no anonymity.

I love it! Working in San Bernardino is depressing. I long for something different.

I hope and pray that you can soon make good close connections with some wonderful new friends. In the meantime it sure helps your old friends when you write about your new experiences so beautifully. Thank you, Becca, for doing your blogging! It definitely helps me with my separation anxiety! It sounds like a wonderful, happy place to live! I'm so glad for you!

Smiling here. I love it and I love you. This is a unique place. And I am happy to hear you are enjoying the difference. Kind of like City Mouse vs. Country Mouse. I miss you.
