Our drive has been fine...
a little tight because it's a little car and we had to pack:
Summer clothes
Fall/School clothes (kids start school)
Peter's work clothes
Fall coats
Activities for the kids
Various shoes
A small kitchen kit
Peter's grad school books
my scrapbooks (every one- I didn't want them in the moving truck)
The art kits I packed for the kids were a total flop- which I suspected while I packed them- I took them away and threw out the boxes at a gas station.
I packed lots of movies- also a source of tension. First, there is a mild argument over the movie to watch. Then there is the continual nagging about not being able to see, why it's closer to Sierra and how they can't hear. ;) Finally there is the smallest amount of contentment as they watch the movie.
I read a book aloud to them, which worked well.
They really do best when they just sit there. :) There is nothing to complain about and they must use their imaginaitons.
Now we are in the hotel room. I'm blogging, the kids are in the bathroom "chatting" and cracking up. Cute kids.

You're amazing that you got all that in your compact car. I guess you and Shauna just used your imagination because I never did any of what you do. Good Mommy!
Love you
Oh Becca. I'm happy for you. Not happy for your transition time, because it will be hard to start over completely and totally. But happy that you finally are out of limbo, that you know where God is leading you and peter has a good job. Sad I won't get to see you for a very long time. Love you, friend!
I know what you mean about the kids doing better when they are just sitting without stuff to do. I found out on our trip to L.A. I was surprised, I thought it was a fluke. They are so precious and delightfully fun. Watching them yesterday,on skype, was the highlite of my day! What ever your doing, keep it up :)
you rock mama!!!
Funny that you mention that they do better without anything--I remember long car rides as a kid, and all we did was read, look at the shapes clouds make, look for license plates, and talk/listen to music--and we did fine.
Megan, I am laughing out loud, that was my life. :)
For your next long trip: audio books (we've especially enjoyed Secret Garden and Chronicles of Narnia) and pipe cleaners. Hours of entertainment there, I promise. But hopefully not another long car trip for a VERY long time!!! Glad you made it safely!
I'm so glad you are there safely! What an answer to prayer! Did you like any of the CD's??
Ya Kerri, we really liked Chris Tomlin. We listened to it though the Rockies at night. It was really good.
