Half Marathon

Did you know that I am training for a half marathon?
Yep, come May 1 in Newport Beach at 6:30am, I'll be starting my race. Hopefully I'll be able to finish too... :) My sister and my friend Tiffany are doing it too.

I'm taking the train to Upland every Friday to meet my sister and do our "long run" of the week together. It is fun to get away each week and do something for my health. A hobby is a healthy thing!

The Metrolink train ride is lovely and it takes 24 minutes to arrive at the station. The station is across the street from my neice and nephew's school where my sister drops off her kids 10 minutes before the train arrives! Perfect!

Friday was my first run since New Years Day. We jogged about 4 miles!! (Yes, I'm sore!)

Sunday I met my cousin Shelley and we jogged another 3! (Yes, I'm sore!)
Today I ran one mile with Peter. (Yes, I'm still sore!)

I was thinking about all the equipment that I'd need since I'm a fancy half marathoner now...
Because you know it's all about the gear.

So I started thinking... "I'm gonna need a watch. You know to time all my mile splits and what not." I thought about buying an awesome iron man watch. But then I decided, NAH-

this sweet penguin watch that Logan got out of his Happy Meal is much more cool.

Then I thought oh I need a Garmin wireless sat-linked watch that keeps track of my calories, miles, and can be linked to Google maps to show my mileage on a map. NAH--

instead i dug through my junk drawer and came up with this old pedometer that I got from Walmart. (Shauna and I got matching red glasses- I got two pairs if you want to join in to the dorky club T!)

Then I thought, "I'll need a special water pack and bag to carry my camera, snacks, radio. The straw for sipping water will be ideal." Nah...

Instead I dug through my trunk and came up with this hip pack that I couldn't resist at the dollar store last fall.

Then I thought, "what about water?" Then I looked through amazon.com and saw all manner of water packs and water bottles with hand holds- then I remembered...

These super cute BPA free water bottles came to mind. They are in the kids department at my beloved 99c store. They hold about 10oz of water, have that cute handle and it has Tinkerbell on it too. So maybe if I sip enough the pixie dust will make me lighter than air.
