We are settling in well here in California. Things are going well. We are experiencing some reverse culture shock. Each of us has experienced it in a different way.

I felt completely out of place at Walmart. I couldn't figure out how to move through the store... I was just kind of walking in circles! It is about 1000 times bigger than any store I've been to for a long time!
I thought my car was going to launch off the freeway as I reached 75 mph in the slow lane behind a semi truck. I watched a 70 year old woman speed past me and I knew I wasn't in Kansas anymore.
I couldn't figure out how to pay for gas. I was trying to be cool and not have to ask questions but it took a long time for me to figure out I had to input the pump number before I could insert the cash. I hope no body was watching me!

Went the grocery store with his brother the day after we arrived. As they approached the soda isle, he was so overwhelmed by choices that he had to just tell his brother to take over!

When she throws a fit in Mongolia. She gives me a dirty look and walks backwards a few steps. Then she yells at me and puts her hands into the dirt and rubs them around because she knows that I don't like her hands getting dirty. We arrived here and she tried to throw her little tantrum. When she put her hands on the concrete and rub them around, she stopped and looked confused. She looked at her hands and noticed right away that they were clean! That stopped her fit!!

He can't figure out where we are or where we are going. Every time we get in the car he asks me what country we're going to visit. He always talks about his neighborhood friend Toogie and he keeps saying, "Remember when we lived in Mongolia and this happened?"
Overall we are doing better than expected though! It is great to be home.

I think you are all doing fantastic! I hope you had a fun date!
this cracked me up, Becca. I have that same feeling in Walmart. Way too overwhelming. But every time I would visit, I would get so excited...it felt like Disneyland. Everything in one place! Everything I needed! And for cheap prices, too! I tried explaining to the clerk that I had just returned from Africa and was so excited...and her eyes kind of glazed over and she looked at me like I said I had just come from Mars.
yeah, I told a person I had just came back from Mongolia and that we lived there. I thought she was going to run away! Funny!
