This is an incredible resource for apraxia.
Nancy Kaufman is the "Apraxia Queen." She has invented and implemented one successful treatment.
Click here for her site and a very encouraging testimonial page where parents tell their successes.
Sierra did very well today at speech therapy. Her attention span was better. She seemed to want to work with Colleen. She showed her ability to make some sounds and her desire to try to make more. It was much more encouraging than all the other 5 appointments we've had in the past.
A history with the therapist and relationship between the therapist and Sierra is going to be so important to her therapy. It is a place that has to be a safe zone and a place where Sierra feels safe enough to try, even if she fails.
She has to feel safe enough to NOT be a clown to cover the fact that she KNOWS she can't do what's being asked.
Being a pleaser, like her mom, she uses her amazing social capabilities to "change the subject." It is amazing to see her cope it this way. She has been covering and coping with her slapstick abilities for awhile now. I see it so clearly when I watch her try to work on speech.

that place looks incredible! I am so glad that Sierra did well today!
I can't connect to the site. However, I came across her when checking out Aprexia. It does sound like a great place to start.
Love you and praying and praying for each moment and decision you an Peter have before you.
I know from working with Micah that we can easily make him self-conscious if all we focus on is his speech. It is such a hard balance, especially when you are doing a lot of home speech therapy! We're praying for you all!
On another note ... it's Joel's birthday today, and we sure wish Weston could be here again this year! Joel misses his good buddy!!!
WOW! Isn't amazing how "smart" children are? And how we as parents have these moments of revelation? Love you so much~
