Track and Field Day June 2012

Weston is such a good runner.  He got to show his stuff.  He did an obstacle course run, a sprint and a tug-o-war.  It was a fun (hot) day of picnic lunches and watching the events. He got three ribbons for his hard work.  

Maybe the best part? Early out from school.  :)  It's good to be a stay-at-home mom and pick them up right when they can come home!

Angry Bird Cupcakes

I think it's a hit!

We had a good time getting ready for Weston's party.  Weston and I started planning for his party on the night when Sierra and Peter were at the Father daughter dance.  We chose the theme,  made party favor bags, chose this cupcake design and began making the Red Angry Bird pinata! :)  

The pinata worked surprisingly well.  Fourteen kids got to hit it and still we had to get an adult to smash it at the end.   Pretty strong for something that was made of 1 flour and 3 parts water and various pieces of junk mail! :)   (I think of this every time I make pancakes now- it can't be good for us to eat what is essentially glue, but that is for another post! :)

Omaha Zoo with Grandma and Daddy April 2012

These are all Weston's pictures from his camera.  He saved up and got a little point and shoot.  So far he has taken good care of it.  I was impressed with some of the pictures from his zoo trip.  I was flying back from California while Grandma and Peter took the kids to the zoo in Omaha.  My trip was delayed five hours, so they got to stay at the zoo a long time and then came to pick me up!  Lucky for them, not so lucky for me! :)

Father Daughter Dance March 2012

This is a special occation here in Alta.  All the little girls go with their daddy to dinner and then to a dance.  We had a great time getting ready like a princess.  Then daddy came home from work and took Sierra out on a special night.  Peter said her favorite thing was the dessert table at the dance!  That's my girl! :)

Our first trip to Hidden Acres March 2012

These pictures were taken by Weston and Sierra.  We had a wonderful time here at the camp.  They have a special pastoral cabin and so we went up to check it out.  Swimming, campfires, hikes, peddle boats, mini golf and playgrounds and game rooms filled our weekend away.  It is like a little refuge. 

We are planning to go again the second weekend in September.  :)  Our kids would gladly live there!

Feb 2012

Lots of snow in Febuary this year.  Weston loved the wet sticky snow of Iowa.  It is so fun to roll into balls.  It leaves a bare patch on the grass as it rolls forward and it makes a crunchy sound too.  :) 

Valentine's day was fun this year.  Weston and Sierra made their own cards for friends.  Weston made snowflake cards that had heart cutouts and Sierra chose a Hello Kitty print with a heart to color.  We added some smarties to each and the kids really enjoyed their class parties.

Sledding trip in Cherokee, IA

I thought some pictures of snow would cool us all off in this heat! :)

There was barely enough snow this year to sled, but the gound was frozen so it was slick! Peter and I went together on an intertube- It was terrifying because we went down backwards and I my back had just gotten better.  It was one of those moments I realized, "I'm older!"  I was gripping onto the tube and praying we'd stay on that tube.  I was envisioning  a Charlie Brown fall. 

Weston was fearless, he went with the other boys at least 20 times.  Sierra cried for 40 minutes while she watched the other children sled and finally perked up and went both with Peter and some friends.  She was NOT a fan of walking back up the hill! :)
